What's so special about trout fishing? Why do fishermen claim trout to be the best family of freshwater game fish out there? Well, they're most often found in fast moving, pristine water and in relatively clean environments. When you catch a trout it's often in clean water and it's quite an experience. Whether it's fishing for the diminutive speckled or brook trout, going after the beautiful rainbow, or pursuing the territorial brown, there are a variety of trout species for every taste. Perhaps their allure comes from the fact that they are excellent table fare, making for a fantastic meal. So, what's the best way to catch these beautiful fish?
Panther Martin, Mepps and Blue Fox Spinners
Spinners are excellent lures for trout because they come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. While somewhat of an unknown when compared to the more popular lures on the market, the Panther Martin line of spinners are trout killers. These small but extremely effective lures spin, dart and flash upon retrieve. However, their greatest asset comes from the fact that they are the world's most effective sonic spinners. Equally effective are Mepps and Blue Fox spinners. Like Panther Martins, they too come in a variety of colors. The most effective is silver blade and silver body.
Colorado Spinners and Worm Rigs Are Equally Effective
Not to be outdone, the Colorado spinner is quite an effective lure for trout. More of a type of lure than a brand name, the Colorado spinner is a small spinner that allows fishermen to add a small worm at the end. Trout often face upstream and wait for the current to bring them their next meal. The Outdoor Adventure Guide recommends approaching them from a downstream position. Try and cast ahead of the current. This will allow your lure or worm rig to travel naturally downstream into the trout's field of vision. Once that happens be sure to have your drag set, as these fish are much stronger than their size indicates. In fast moving water they are an extremely effective fighting fish.
When you are trout fishing make sure to have a great number of spinner and worm rig combos. These are very skittish fish and are extremely aware of their surroundings. Any sudden movement will surely spook them. However, once caught they reward their pursuer with an excellent fight.
